Where each walk sits in the schedule

- After the deck is installed and underlayment is run, before the field material, tile or panels are loaded onto the roof. Run by: The roofing foreman walking the deck with the crew, ahead of the GC's dry-in inspection.
- Roofing pre-cover inspection checklistpre-cover
- After flashing, valleys and cricket underlayment are complete, before the finish layer (shingle, tile, panel or membrane cap) covers them. Run by: The roofing foreman with the GC's superintendent, releasing sections for field material to be loaded.

- After the finish material and all flashing and edge metal are installed, before turnover and warranty issuance. Run by: The roofing foreman at completion, then the GC or owner's representative at final acceptance.

What most often sends roofing work back
- Soft or delaminated deck sheathing covered by underlayment before it's flagged for replacement.
- Underlayment laps run against the slope instead of shingle-fashion, found only after the first rain.
- Fastener pattern thinned out near the ridge or eaves where the crew ran short.
- Base flashing lapped under the underlayment instead of over it, sending water behind the flashing.
- Valley metal or membrane cut short of the required width, only visible before the field material lands on top.
- Cricket built too shallow to shed water around the back of a curb or chimney.
- Edge metal seams left unsealed or fasteners exposed where the spec calls for concealed fastening.
- Debris and fastener scraps left on the roof and in gutters, found by the owner instead of the closeout walk.
