What most often sends rainscreen cladding work back

  • Clips and fasteners driven through the WRB with no sealing detail, so every fastener becomes a leak path into the sheathing.
  • Furring set out of plane so the finished panels wave, telegraphing every high and low clip across the elevation.
  • The WRB left unlapped or untied at window and door openings, so the drainage plane dumps water behind the sill instead of out.
  • The drainage cavity blocked by insulation, sealant or debris so water can not drain or the wall can not vent behind the panels.
  • Head, sill and base flashings lapped backward or left short, so the flashing sheds water into the cavity instead of out of it.
  • Weep and vent openings at the base and heads left blocked, trapping water and moisture behind the panel skin.
  • Panels installed with uneven reveals and lippage that read as a wavy elevation once the light rakes across it.
  • Fastener spacing or panel engagement short of the manufacturer's layout, so panels rattle or work loose in wind.
