As-built drawings
Also called: record drawings
As-built drawings are the design set updated to reflect reality — every dimension that shifted, every routing that changed, every RFI answer and change that moved something from where the plans showed it. They're maintained as the work goes in and delivered at closeout so the owner knows what's actually there. Guessing at a concealed run years later is exactly what as-builts exist to prevent.
Why it matters
Field conditions never match the plans perfectly. A change caught in an RFI, a rerouted line to dodge a conflict, a relocated cleanout — if it isn't red-lined onto the drawings as it happens, it's lost. The owner's facilities team relies on as-builts every time they open a wall or trace a system, so incomplete records are a liability that outlives the project.
What proves it
The strongest as-built record is red-lines backed by dated photos of the condition before it was concealed. A pre-cover photo of an assembly, tied to its location, is proof of the real routing that a clean drawing can never provide on its own.

Knowing the term is step one. Proving it is the job.
RTI holds the submit button until every mandatory item is answered and the photos are attached, then chains the record so it can be proven untouched later.
