MEP coordination
Also called: MEP coordination, trade coordination, clash coordination
MEP coordination is the up-front work of routing the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire-protection systems together — ductwork, pipe, conduit, cable tray and sprinkler mains — so they all fit in the space above the ceiling or in the shafts without running into each other or into the structure. It resolves the conflicts on paper or in a model, and it fixes the sequence and elevations so that when each trade installs, its route is already clear. Done well it is invisible; skipped, it surfaces as trades tearing out each other's work.
Why it matters
The plenum above a ceiling is where every system competes for the same tight space, and each trade drawing only its own scope will happily route straight through where another trade needs to be. Coordination decides who wins each conflict before anyone hangs anything, so the first trade in does not force the next three into rework.
It also protects the things that have to hold clearances and slopes — the gravity drain that needs its fall, the duct main that sets the ceiling height, the required working clearance at electrical gear. Those are the routes that cannot simply be bent around a clash later, so they anchor the coordination.

Coordinated routing resolved before installation, priority given to the systems with fixed slopes and clearances, and the rough-in inspected against the coordinated layout so clashes are caught before they are closed in.
