Nurse call system quarterly maintenance checklist

A quarterly nurse call system round is short on purpose: it catches the wear items that fail between annual services. This checklist is sized for a tech with a phone. Every item says what to look at and the photo that proves the round happened. Work is commonly verified against the applicable building code, manufacturer's published instructions. Confirm the edition your authority having jurisdiction has adopted.

Who runs it

The maintenance or low-voltage tech on the quarterly round; the field observes and documents, the licensed integrator certifies.

When in the schedule

Every quarter, walked room by room. Calls that never annunciate are usually found only when someone actually presses the button.

The checklist

Every item, and the photo that proves it

The photo count on each row is what RTI would require before the item can be submitted. Copy the list as is, or load it into RTI and let the gate enforce it.

01

Call stations

  • Bedside, bath and pull-cord stations placed and functional

Each station present, cords reaching the floor where required, buttons and reset controls not damaged, station places a call when pressed.

    2 photos
  • Station cancel and reset work at the point of care

Call clears from the station itself, not only at the master, and the corridor light and annunciator drop when the call is reset.

02

Annunciation

  • Corridor dome light and master station annunciate the call

A call lights the correct corridor dome, shows the correct originating station at the master, and the audible tone sounds — path observed end to end.

Backup

  • System backup power present and indicating healthy

Backup supply energized, no trouble or low-battery indication at the master, no stations showing offline.

What usually sends this back

The failures are almost always the evidence, not the work

  • A pull-cord or bath station calls but the corridor dome light and master station never annunciate, so nobody responds.
  • A pull cord is missing or tucked out of reach, so the station it serves cannot be reached from the fixture it protects.
  • The system runs on utility power with a dead backup, and the failure is invisible until a power blip drops the whole system.

Common questions

What does this nurse call system quarterly checklist cover?
4 items across 3 sections, covering call stations, annunciation, backup. Each item spells out what the person walking the job is actually looking for, not just a box to tick.
Who should run this inspection?
The maintenance or low-voltage tech on the quarterly round; the field observes and documents, the licensed integrator certifies.
When in the schedule should this walk happen?
Every quarter, walked room by room. Calls that never annunciate are usually found only when someone actually presses the button.
Why does every item ask for a photo?
6 of the 4 items call for photo evidence. A checklist answer without the photo is a claim; the photo is what makes the record worth something in a dispute and lets a reviewer approve work without re-walking the job.
What most often fails a nurse call system quarterly inspection?
A pull-cord or bath station calls but the corridor dome light and master station never annunciate, so nobody responds. A pull cord is missing or tucked out of reach, so the station it serves cannot be reached from the fixture it protects. The system runs on utility power with a dead backup, and the failure is invisible until a power blip drops the whole system.
Can I use this checklist in RTI?
Yes. Start a free RTI workspace, build this list as a checklist, and the Photo Gate holds the submit button until every mandatory item is answered and its photos are attached. Approved inspections roll into a branded turnover package with a tamper-evident audit trail.
