Water mist suppression system quarterly maintenance checklist

A quarterly water mist suppression system round is short on purpose: it catches the wear items that fail between annual services. This checklist is sized for a tech with a phone. Every item says what to look at and the photo that proves the round happened. Work is commonly verified against NFPA fire suppression standards, manufacturer's published instructions. Supply and driving pressure

  • Cylinder, accumulator or pump supply pressure read

    Driving pressure read at the gauge against the manufacturer's fill or standby mark, cylinders weighed or level-checked where the instructions call for it, readings noted and neither gauge stuck.

  • Pump set readiness observed where fitted

    On a pump-driven system, the pump and controller in automatic and standby, no trouble on the controller, priming and suction conditions normal.

Distribution and nozzles

  • Section valves in their normal positions and supervised

    Each section or zone valve set to its marked normal position and supervised, tamper reporting where fitted, nothing left isolated after prior work.

  • Mist nozzles clear, aimed and caps intact

    Nozzles over the hazard clear of paint, grease and debris, protective caps or blow-off covers intact, each aimed as installed and none missing or corroded.

Detection and release

  • Detection and release path observed

    Detection covering the hazard intact and reporting, release solenoid or actuator in its normal state, manual release station in place, unobstructed and not left disabled.

What usually sends this back

The failures are almost always the evidence, not the work

  • Cylinder or accumulator pressure never read against the fill mark, so a slowly bleeding supply isn't caught until the system is called and comes up short.
  • Fine mist nozzles found painted, greased or blocked, so the droplet pattern the system relies on collapses at exactly the nozzles over the hazard.
  • A section valve left closed after other work, so part of the protected area has no supply and nobody knows until discharge.
