Dust collector quarterly maintenance checklist
A quarterly dust collector round is short on purpose: it catches the wear items that fail between annual services. This checklist is sized for a tech with a phone. Every item says what to look at and the photo that proves the round happened. Work is commonly verified against manufacturer's published instructions. Confirm the edition your authority having jurisdiction has adopted.

Who runs it
The maintenance tech on the quarterly round for the collection system.
When in the schedule
Every quarter, and more often on a heavily loaded baghouse, since a blinding filter is the first thing that quietly kills capture at the tools.
The checklist
Every item, and the photo that proves it
The photo count on each row is what RTI would require before the item can be submitted. Copy the list as is, or load it into RTI and let the gate enforce it.
Filters and cleaning
- 2 photos
Filter differential pressure read and trended
Magnehelic or gauge reading across the filters recorded and compared against the prior round, a steady climb flagged as filters loading or blinding.
- 1 photo
Pulse-clean operation and compressed air confirmed
Each solenoid and diaphragm valve heard and felt firing in sequence, header pressure holding, air dryer working so moisture isn't caking the filters.
Discharge and capture
- 2 photos
Hopper and rotary airlock discharge checked
Hopper not bridged or packed, rotary airlock turning and sealing, dust discharging cleanly to the drum or bin rather than backing up or leaking at the vanes.
- 1 photo
Ductwork and pickup capture verified
Capture confirmed at the hoods and pickups, ductwork free of leaks, sagging flex or plugged runs, blast gates set where they belong.
Protection and drive
- 1 photo
Explosion-protection devices observed, not tested
Explosion vents, isolation valve and any suppression seen intact and unobstructed with indicators normal; devices are observed, not function-tested, by the RTI user.
- 1 photo
Fan and motor checked for vibration and noise
Fan running smoothly, no new vibration, bearing noise or belt slip, motor not running hot, no material buildup unbalancing the wheel.
What usually sends this back
The failures are almost always the evidence, not the work
- Rising filter differential pressure ignored until capture at the pickups drops off and dust starts settling around the machines the collector serves.
- Pulse-clean assumed working because the compressor is running, when a stuck diaphragm valve or low header pressure means half the rows aren't actually pulsing.
- Rotary airlock left bridging or leaking, so the hopper packs out and dust backs up into the clean-air side instead of discharging.
Run it with the Photo Gate
A checklist nobody can submit half-finished
Load this list into RTI, stick a QR tag on the area it covers, and the submit button stays locked until every mandatory item is answered and the 8 required photos exist. Approved walks roll into a branded turnover package with a tamper-evident record behind every line.
Submission state
The gate is enforced on the server, so it holds even if the phone is offline when the walk happens.
Common questions
- What does this dust collector quarterly checklist cover?
- 6 items across 3 sections, covering filters and cleaning, discharge and capture, protection and drive. Each item spells out what the person walking the job is actually looking for, not just a box to tick.
- Who should run this inspection?
- The maintenance tech on the quarterly round for the collection system.
- When in the schedule should this walk happen?
- Every quarter, and more often on a heavily loaded baghouse, since a blinding filter is the first thing that quietly kills capture at the tools.
- Why does every item ask for a photo?
- 8 of the 6 items call for photo evidence. A checklist answer without the photo is a claim; the photo is what makes the record worth something in a dispute and lets a reviewer approve work without re-walking the job.
- What most often fails a dust collector quarterly inspection?
- Rising filter differential pressure ignored until capture at the pickups drops off and dust starts settling around the machines the collector serves. Pulse-clean assumed working because the compressor is running, when a stuck diaphragm valve or low header pressure means half the rows aren't actually pulsing. Rotary airlock left bridging or leaking, so the hopper packs out and dust backs up into the clean-air side instead of discharging.
- Can I use this checklist in RTI?
- Yes. Start a free RTI workspace, build this list as a checklist, and the Photo Gate holds the submit button until every mandatory item is answered and its photos are attached. Approved inspections roll into a branded turnover package with a tamper-evident audit trail.
