Fire and smoke damper quarterly maintenance checklist

Blades fully open and clear, frame and sleeve free of corrosion or distortion, no drywall mud or debris packed into the assembly.

Fusible link intact with its linkage connected, or the actuator and wiring in place, nothing painted over or jammed.

The failures are almost always the evidence, not the work
- Access door drywalled or ducted over by another trade, so the damper behind a rated wall can no longer be reached or tested at all.
- Damper labels painted over or missing, so nobody can tell a fire damper from a combination fire/smoke unit or read its rating.
- Actuator or linkage visibly disconnected but logged as 'in place' because the blades were never watched through a cycle.
