Precast concrete final inspection checklist

Precast concrete final inspection is where the punch list is either short or expensive. This checklist walks the finished work the way an owner or AHJ will see it: devices on, systems running, everything labeled. Each item gets the photo that closes it instead of reopening it. Work is commonly verified against PCI guidance, the applicable building code. Confirm the edition your authority having jurisdiction has adopted.

Who runs it

The GC's superintendent with the erector, walking the completed structure before the frame is enclosed.

When in the schedule

After erection is complete and connections, welds and grout have cured, before the envelope closes the joints in.

The checklist

Every item, and the photo that proves it

The photo count on each row is what RTI would require before the item can be submitted. Copy the list as is, or load it into RTI and let the gate enforce it.

01

Connections complete

  • Every connection welded, bolted and cured

Each connection closed out to its detail, welds cleaned and sized, bolts tensioned, grout cured hard before sign-off.

    2 photos
  • Bracing removed only after connections carry load

Temporary bracing struck only where permanent connections and grout are verified complete, no piece left relying on bracing.

02

Joints and finish

  • Panel and joint alignment consistent across the face

Joint widths even, panel faces flush within tolerance, no stepping or drift carried up the elevation.

    2 photos
  • Chamfers and arrises clean and unbroken

Chamfered edges continuous, no rig damage or handling chips left in the exposed arris lines.

03

Joint treatment

  • Waterproofing and joint treatment at panel joints

Joint waterproofing or sealant applied over cured grout, continuous at the panel joints with no missed runs.

What usually sends this back

The failures are almost always the evidence, not the work

  • A handful of connections left as erection tacks after the crew demobilized, found only when someone counts welds against the drawing.
  • Panel joints wider on one floor than the next, the misalignment carried up the elevation instead of corrected early.
  • Joint waterproofing installed over grout that hadn't cured, so it debonds at the first freeze.

Common questions

What does this precast concrete final checklist cover?
5 items across 3 sections, covering connections complete, joints and finish, joint treatment. Each item spells out what the person walking the job is actually looking for, not just a box to tick.
Who should run this inspection?
The GC's superintendent with the erector, walking the completed structure before the frame is enclosed.
When in the schedule should this walk happen?
After erection is complete and connections, welds and grout have cured, before the envelope closes the joints in.
Why does every item ask for a photo?
8 of the 5 items call for photo evidence. A checklist answer without the photo is a claim; the photo is what makes the record worth something in a dispute and lets a reviewer approve work without re-walking the job.

A handful of connections left as erection tacks after the crew demobilized, found only when someone counts welds against the drawing. Panel joints wider on one floor than the next, the misalignment carried up the elevation instead of corrected early.
