Sitework final inspection checklist

Sitework final inspection is where the punch list is either short or expensive. This checklist walks the finished work the way an owner or AHJ will see it: devices on, systems running, everything labeled. Each item gets the photo that closes it instead of reopening it. Work is commonly verified against the project geotechnical report, the applicable building code. Confirm the edition your authority having jurisdiction has adopted.

Drainage

Site drains away from structures everywhere
Positive slope at every building perimeter, no birdbaths at foundations, scuppers and area drains unobstructed.
Pavement and flatwork free of ponding after a rain
The site walked wet, any standing water located and photographed for correction.
Inlets, sumps and outfalls cleaned of construction sediment
Grates open, catch basin sumps and pipe ends cleared of silt, outfalls stabilized with no scour at the discharge point.
Stormwater ponds and swales finished to the drawing elevations
Where the site has detention, swales or treatment areas, bottom and outlet elevations checked against the drawings and construction sediment removed.

Temporary erosion controls removed only behind stabilization
Silt fence, inlet protection and the construction entrance taken out only where permanent cover is established, per the erosion control plan and permit.

Flatwork condition

Flatwork free of cracking, scaling and trip edges
Joints tooled and sealed where specified, no vertical displacement at joints on accessible routes.
Curb, gutter and pavement markings complete
Curb lines straight and undamaged, striping and signage per the site plan.
Curb ramps finished with detectable warnings and flush edges
Where the site has curb ramps, warning panels cover the full ramp width and are bonded tight, and the ramp meets the gutter or street without a lip.

Paving and restoration

Lids, grates and boxes flush with the finished paving
Manhole lids, valve boxes, cleanouts and grates in pavement and walks sitting flush, with no trip lip and no lid rocking under foot.
Pavement and walk edges backfilled and supported
Shoulders and back of curb backfilled and compacted up to the edge, no exposed base or undercut edge where the pavement could break off.
Staging, haul routes and disturbed areas restored
Ground disturbed outside the grading limits, including laydown areas and haul routes, regraded and restored to the condition the contract documents call for.
Street, sidewalk and neighbor tie-ins free of equipment damage
Public walks, street edges and adjoining property at the tie-ins checked for cracking, rutting or settlement, with any damage photographed for repair.

Records

Compaction and pre-pour records on file for every area
The photo record export shows test results and pour releases for each utility run and pour section.
As-built survey of grades, inverts and rims compiled
Finish grades, utility inverts and structure rim elevations surveyed and matched to the field record, ready for the engineer of record's review.

Dates and results of the city, utility and permit inspections on water, sewer, storm and right-of-way work recorded, with open comments listed.
